Upon investigating the appeals addressed by a number of convicts, human rights organizations and the Ombudsman, 431 convicts including 35 women and 14 foreigners were pardoned by the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, dated March 16, 2019.

On 17 November 2010, the NSW Ombudsman Bruce Barbour tabled a report to Parliament entitled 'Responding to the asbestos problem: The need for significant reform in NSW'. The Ombudsman received nearly 4,100 complaints last year. In addition, he launched over 60 investigations on his own initiative. Most complaints concerned the police, social welfare and health care, and prisons.

Venice Commission adopts “Principles on the Protection and Promotion of the Ombudsman Institution”
On 15 March 2019, the “Principles on the Protection and Promotion of the Ombudsman Institution”, (“The Venice Principles”) were adopted by the Venice Commission. The Venice Commission is the Council of Europe’s Commission for Democracy through Law providing legal advice to its Member States.
