El Valedor do Pobo firmó en Vitoria una declaración institucional en relación á “execrable” vulneración de los derechos humanos que, aún hoy, constituye la violencia de género. Esta comunicación, en la que se incide en especial en la necesidad de que los poderes públicos atiendan las necesidades de los menores que son víctimas de la violencia de género, es consecuencia de un encuentro de trabajo celebrado en Vitoria por parte de la región europea de la Red de Mujeres de la Federación Iberoamericana de Ombudsman (FIO) de la que forma parte a institución gallega.

El encuentro, convocado por la Federación Iberoamericana del Ombudsman (FIO), fue organizado conjuntamente por la Red de Migrantes y Trata de esa Federación y la Defensoría del Pueblo de Colombia, y contó con el apoyo de la cooperación alemana GIZ.

Vigorous activities by the Seimas Ombudsmen raise public awareness about the Seimas Ombudsmen`s Office
More than a half (54%) of Lithuanian residents would know where to find protection against human rights violations, as many as 42% would seek help from the Seimas Ombudsmen. Those are the findings of a representative survey of the population commissioned by the Seimas Ombudsmen’s Office, carried out at the end of last year.

The Ombudsman, Soledad Becerril, and the autonomous-regional ombudsmen have called on the European Union (EU) for greater involvement in preventing the deaths of more immigrants in the Mediterranean. This is what they have indicated in an institutional declaration in which they regret the deaths that occurred on 18 April and call for more means to enhance living conditions in the countries of origin.
