On 17 – 18 April2019 the Protector of Citizens of the Republic of Serbia, Mr Zoran Pašalić, paid a visit to the Austrian Ombudsman Board. Ombudsman Pašalić was accompanied by the Head of the Serbian NPM Section, the Serbian advisor on “Urgent Actions” and other staff members from the office. The delegation was welcomed in Vienna by Ombudswoman Gertrude Brinek and Ombudsman Günther Kräuter.

Adama Toungara, nouveau Médiateur de la République
« Le Président de la République, Son Excellence Monsieur Alassane Ouattara, a procédé ce mercredi 4 avril 2018 à la signature d’un décret portant nomination du Médiateur de la République. Ainsi, Monsieur Adama Toungara, est nommé Médiateur de la République », a annoncé le Secrétaire Général de la Présidence de la République, M. Patrick Achi. Par ce décret, M. Adama Toungara succède à Monsieur N’Golo Coulibaly, nommé depuis le 14 juillet 2017, Président de la Haute Autorité pour la Bonne Gouvernance.

La Defensora NNyA fue designada coordinadora de la Red de Niñez y Adolescencia de la FIO
La Defensora de Niñas, Niños y Adolescentes de la provincia de Santa Fe, Analía Colombo, fue designada como coordinadora general de la Red de Niñez y Adolescencia de la Federación Iberoamericana del Ombudsman. El nombramiento fue realizado el pasado 14 de marzo en el marco de la XII Sesión de la Red de Niñez y Adolescencia de la Federación Iberoamericana del Ombudsman en la ciudad de Panamá.

La cárcel de Devoto data de muchos años en la ciudad autónoma de Buenos Aires. Si bien podemos señalar que la misma posee situaciones muy gravosas en cuanto a su mantenimiento, también es cierto que la misma se encuentra sumamente poblada por ciudadanos de la jurisdicción Metropolitana. Aunque el jefe de la Ciudad Autónoma de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires le pide al gobierno nacional que se saque la cárcel de devoto y la envíe a la Provincia, la Procuración Penitencia de la Nación podemos afirmar que esta iniciativa no es original.

Director of mental health care centre strictly reprimanded based on Human Rights Defender’s findings
The director of the “Dzorak” mental health care centre has been strictly reprimanded by the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs for his improper performance. The reprimand was based on the shortcomings and violations recorded by the Human Rights Defender during a monitoring visit conducted in the mentioned centre.

Control Yuan impeaches judge for misconduct
In October 2015, the Control Yuan (CY) voted in favor of impeaching a Taipei High Administrative Court judge for sexual harassment against an office assistant. In making its decision, the CY stated that the judge had tarnished the public’s respect for a court judge’s position; his conduct was unsuited to the role of a judge. The CY then sent the case to the Judicial Yuan’s Court of the Judiciary for trial.

Roundtable discussion sparks talks for action and change
The Ombudsman in conjunction with the Commonwealth Secretariat recently held roundtable discussions on equality and inclusion understood in the context of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRH) in Namibia. The discussions also included the context of sexual orientation and gender identity in Namibia. The week-long discussions saw stakeholders from the Education, civil society; NGOs, government and other sectors share their experiences and challenges pertaining to the two issues at hand.
