2019-11-04The government is becoming invisible to citizens, but remains responsible
National Ombudsman Reinier van Zutphen closes a year of exploration on 31 October with the conference "Who will participate? Citizens and government in 2030?" Prime Minister Mark Rutte was one of his discussion partners during the congress. Irish Ombudsman and IOI President Peter Tyndall led two workshops on cooperation between ombudsman organisations. With 450 participants, the conference was a success.

2012-06-28The X Baku Conference of Ombudsman Took Place
With support of UNESCO the X Baku Conference of Ombudsman took place from 18th to 20th June. Azerbaijan Commissioner of Human Rights, Elmira Suleymanova was pleased to welcome participants from all over the world, including representatives of Canada, Mexico, China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, and Turkey who joined the Baku Conference for the first time.

2012-06-25Public Services Ombudsman for Wales publishes Annual Report
In his Annual Report, laid before the National Assembly for Wales on 20 June 2012, the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales, Peter Tyndall, reveals that once again there has been an increase in the volume of casework at his office. Enquiries rose by 66% compared to 2010/11. Complaints about public bodies were up by 13% overall with complaints about health bodies up 55% on the previous year.

His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands spoke with the ombudsmen of the Kingdom of the Netherlands on Wednesday afternoon, 30 October. It was the first time that the ombudsmen had a joint conversation with the King. The interview was part of King Willem-Alexander's visit to the National Ombudsman.

2019-10-29Successfully closed IOI Europe Workshop on General Data Protection Regulation
From 16 to 17 October 2019 an IOI Europe workshop was held in Riga (Latvia).The workshop focused on the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation and the different aspects to be considered by human rights institutions in their work. The workshop consisted of three sessions: GDPR and supervision, GDPR at national level and GDPR and individual.

Public sector agencies are increasingly making use of advice and resources from the Ombudsman. In the Chief Ombudsman’s latest Annual Report, contacts for advice increased by 29%, while more use was being made of guidance material, including the 23 new or updated guides that were published in the 2018/19 year.
