2021-07-15Ombudsman sees more data, police and whistleblower complaints
The Office of the Ombudsman’s annual report for 2020 was made public in Parliament on 14 July 2021. During 2020, the office fielded a total of 332 enquiries from members of the public, opened 231 cases for either investigation or informal resolution and resolved 210 cases. By way of comparison, the office opened 30 more cases overall during 2020 than in 2019, despite the pandemic and government lockdown during the second quarter.

En el foro se intercambiaron opiniones sobre temas de derechos humanos laborales y la revisión de leyes y políticas existentes.

Mr Cissé died on 28 August 2021 in Dakar at the age of 63. The IOI expresses its heartfelt condolences. Our thoughts go out to Mr Cissé’s family and friends, his colleagues and staff.

European Ombudsman Emily O’Reilly welcomes the Parliament’s approval (602 votes out of the 692 cast) of a strengthened legal framework for her Office. The revised statute strengthens the legal base of the Ombudsman and introduces new safeguards to further guarantee its independence, including an adequate budget to support the Office’s activities.
