The Québec Ombudsman recently released a special report entitled Services Provided to Young People and Adults with a Pervasive Developmental Disorder: From Government Commitment to Cold Hard Facts. The report, submitted to the National Assembly, follows a first report released in October 2009 on services for children aged 0 to 7 years with pervasive developmental disorders (PDDs).

On 17th May 2012, the Portuguese Ombudsman, Alfredo José de Sousa, delivered to the President of the Parliament his Annual Report of Activities concerning the year of 2011. The Ombudsman received 7753 complaints, due to the current economic and financial context one out of five cases opened in 2011 concerned social rights.

2019-11-18Última jornada de capacitación sobre el Protocolo de Estambul
El pasado miércoles 13 de noviembre se realizó el último encuentro para promover el cumplimiento del Protocolo de Estambul en la Academia Nacional de Medicina, el taller “Aportes de la medicina en la prevención y sanción de la tortura” organizado por la Procuración Penitenciaria de la Nación Argentina (PPN). El taller fue parte del proyecto “Fortalecimiento de las capacidades de los Mecanismos Nacionales de Prevención de la Tortura" que cuenta con el apoyo del Fondo OPCAT de Naciones Unidas. Nuevamente se utilizó la modalidad de práctico-ateneo II donde se presentaron dos casos de tortura.

According to Deputy-Ombudsman Pasi Pölönen, more precise regulation is required concerning smoking bans in prisons. Any lack of clarity in regulations should be urgently rectified because the health of personnel working in prisons and of prisoners who do not smoke must be safeguarded.

El defensor del Pueblo de la provincia de Santa Fe (Argentina), Raúl Lamberto, y el rector de la Universidad Nacional de Rosario, Franco Bartolacci, encabezarán el 14 de noviembre a partir de las 9.30 en el Aula Magna de la Facultad de Derecho de la UNR la jornada de presentación del libro Progresos y Desafíos de los Derechos en la provincia de Santa Fe, un trabajo de investigación sobre el avance en los derechos económicos, sociales y culturales desde el enfoque de derechos humanos.

A former Council employee at the Mildura Cemetery Trust in Victoria, Australia, misused his position for personal benefit and made careless mistakes that distressed grieving families, Victorian Ombudsman Deborah Glass has found. Her investigation looked into allegations about the employee, who worked at Mildura’s Nichols Point and Murray Pines cemeteries from 1993 to August 2018.

A new edition of the book “Online Dispute Resolution: Theory and Practice: A Treatise on Technology and Dispute Resolution” is in preparation. The chapter on ODR and Ombudsmanship will be updated and will investigate the uptake (or not) of technology assisted Ombudsman work. You are kindly asked to contribute to the survey.
