From Oct. 23 – Oct. 25, 2017, the Ontario Ombudsman’s Office presented three one-day workshops on managing unreasonable complainant conduct for its staff and participants from other North American oversight offices. Presented by Donald Sword of the New South Wales Ombudsman, the sessions focused on techniques and strategies for mitigating challenging complainant behaviour and mediating issues arising from that behaviour.

New measures against energy poverty announced
Poverty is an enemy of human rights and states are successful to the extent on how much they look after the most vulnerable, said Ombudswoman Lora Vidović at the opening of the conference on energy poverty, that she organised on the occasion of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty and Social Exclusion. The participants welcomed the new measures announced by the representative of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, Dean Smolar.

Torturas en la cárcel de Ezeiza: La Procuración Penitenciaria se presentó como querellante
El día 30 de marzo de 2015 en el Complejo Penitenciario I de Ezeiza una persona privada de la libertad habría sido torturada por dos agentes del Servicio Penitenciario Federal. La Procuración Penitenciaria de la Nación presentó una denuncia al respecto, la cual fue llevada adelante por la Fiscalía y la Procuraduría de Violencia Institucional (Procuvin).

South Australian Ombudsman releases Annual Report 2016-17
The Ombudsman tabled his 2016/2017 Annual Report in Parliament on 18 October 2017. The Report highlights that complaints about state and local government continue to rise significantly; there has been an increase of 14% in complaints made to the Ombudsman’s Office this financial year. Applications for external reviews of determinations made under the Freedom of Information Act 1991 went up 44%.
