El síndic de greuges de Cataluña, Rafael Ribó, ha reclamado en comisión parlamentaria a todas las administraciones que adopten las medidas necesarias para proteger a los colectivos más vulnerables y en riesgo de exclusión. En este sentido, ha hecho una mención especial de los niños extranjeros sin referentes familiares que viven en Cataluña (MENA) y que están sufriendo ataques xenófobos y muestras de rechazo muy graves, como los incidentes de Canet de Mar y Castelldefels.

Formación sobre justicia restaurativa organizada por la Defensoría del Pueblo de la Provincia de Santa Fe
El defensor del Pueblo pidió avanzar en “prácticas restaurativas como metodologías de abordaje de conflictos”. La capacitación se desarrollará en cuatro clases en el nodo Rosario con la participación de numerosos organismos.

On Wednesday 13 March IOI President and Irish Ombudsman Peter Tyndall published a report on his Office’s experience of dealing with complaints from refugees and asylum seekers living in direct provision centres in 2018.

IOI-AORC Mediation Training for African Ombudsman & IOI Meeting of the African Region
From the 12th to the 15th of March, a Mediation Training for African Ombudsman was held in Durban, South Africa. The IOI in collaboration with the African Ombudsman Research Centre (AORC) had organized a program, tailor-made for the needs of African Ombudsinstitutions, hosted by the Public Protector of South Africa.

Venice Commission adopts “Principles on the Protection and Promotion of the Ombudsman Institution”
On 15 March 2019, the “Principles on the Protection and Promotion of the Ombudsman Institution”, (“The Venice Principles”) were adopted by the Venice Commission. The Venice Commission is the Council of Europe’s Commission for Democracy through Law providing legal advice to its Member States.

Helsinki Conference on impacts of artificial intelligence on human rights, democracy and the rule of law
A high-level conference on the topic of “Impacts of artificial intelligence development on human rights, democracy and the rule of law” was held from February 26-27, 2019, in Helsinki, Finland. The conference was organized by the Finnish government and Council of Europe (CoE) within the framework of the Finnish Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers.
