    SERBIA hosts Council of Europe NPM workshop

    The 9th thematic workshop “Irregular migrants, Frontex and the NPMs”, the final workshop within the framework of the Council of Europe's "Peer to Peer II" project was held in Belgrade 12-13 June 2012. The event assembling several ombudsman institutions was hosted by the Protector of Citizens of the Republic of Serbia.

    A new FRA Working Paper includes statistical data on antisemitic incidents collected by supranational, governmental and NGO sources. The update shows that antisemitism remains a problem for civil society as a whole and for Jewish populations in particular across the EU.

    2010 Annual Report now available in English

    The second year of work shows a decline of complaints on the one hand, on the other, the Ombudsman Bureau was able to resolve more complaints than in the year before. Only the response of administration towards the Ombudsman’s reports was below expectations.

    Report on the Hong Kong training for the Asian and APOR regions

    Application to the Constitutional Court regarding campaign financing

    The Commissioner for Fundamental Rights requested the Constitutional Court to examine the provision of the Act on Electoral Procedure which limits in HUF 1 million per candidate the amount that can be used during the electoral campaign for Members of Parliament. The Ombudsman has invited the Constitutional Court to examine also a possible failure to act by the law-maker in connection with the control of the utilisation of campaign funds.

    The European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) published two new reports on the rights of people with disabilities. The reports highlight the need to move from institutional to community-based living arrangements and to reformulate laws and policies to make them more inclusive.

    AOB meets with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights

    On 5 June 2012 Ombudswoman Terezija Stoisits, Ombudsman Peter Kostelka and Human Rights Advisory Council Deputy Chairwoman Prof. Gabriele Kucsko-Stadlmayer met with the recently appointed Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe Nils Muižnieks who currently is performing a three-day visit to Austria.

    NHRI Database Project

    Raoul Wallenberg Institute , in cooperation with the Asia Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (APF) and the Network of African National Human Rights Institutions (NANHRI), has developed a database of NHRI materials. The purpose of the database is to make NHRI materials (annual reports, thematic guides and studies, national inquiries, etc.) available to a wider audience and to generally promote the work of NHRIs around the world. From experience with similar projects, potential users include, inter alia: students, scholars, donors, and other NHRIs.

    Special Report on Young People and Adults with a Pervasive Developmental Disorder

    The Québec Ombudsman recently released a special report entitled Services Provided to Young People and Adults with a Pervasive Developmental Disorder: From Government Commitment to Cold Hard Facts. The report, submitted to the National Assembly, follows a first report released in October 2009 on services for children aged 0 to 7 years with pervasive developmental disorders (PDDs).
