Ombudsman’s Office to take role in monitoring private aged care facilities / court cells
The Office of the Ombudsman will soon be monitoring the treatment of patients in privately run aged care facilities and detainees in court cells. The additional responsibilities were gazetted today. They are in addition to the Office’s current responsibilities under the United Nation’s Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture (OPCAT).

New Ombudswoman for Vorarlberg (Austria)
Gabriele Strele was elected by the Parliament of the Land Vorarlberg as new Ombudswoman and took up office on 30 October 2009 following Dr. Felix Dünser who returned after his non-renewable six year term to the judiciary.

City council to reconsider school admission appeal after Ombudsman investigation
Nottingham City Council has been told to offer a fresh schools admission hearing to a young boy who needed to move school because of “honour” based violence. The boy’s mother had applied for her son to move into Year Five at the new school, because she wanted him to attend a school that no other family members attended.

Ombudsman of Lithuania and Ukraine discuss human rights issues in Ukraine
The Seimas Ombudsman Augustinas Normantas and the Speaker of the Seimas Viktoras Pranckietis discussed the human rights issues in Ukraine with the Ukrainian Ombudsman Lyudmyla Denisova. The Seimas Ombudsmen's Office together with other Lithuanian organisations implements an EU Twinning project aimed at strengthening the skills of the staff of the Ukrainian Ombudsman institution.

Le 1er mai 2017, la Loi facilitant la divulgation d’actes répréhensibles à l’égard des organismes publics confiait au Protecteur du citoyen le mandat de traiter les divulgations d’actes répréhensibles commis au sein ou à l’égard d’un organisme public. C’est dans le cadre de ce nouveau mandat que le Protecteur du citoyen diffuse sa première conclusion d’enquête en matière d’intégrité publique.

La Defensoría del Pueblo se refirió al nuevo cuadro tarifario aprobado por Enargas que entró en vigencia el 1 de abril y señaló que el mismo no considera la situación socioeconómica de los usuarios y la evolución de salarios y de la economía en general. En el mismo sentido remarcó una serie de items a tener presentes por los usuarios.

Human Rights Defender’s ad hoc report on children with disabilities discussed by National Assembly
On June 29, by the initiative of the Chairmen of the RA National Assembly Mr. Ara Babloyan, a working meeting entitled “Issues of children with disabilities” was initiated based on recommendations stated in the RA Human Rights Defender’s “Commitments under the Convention of the Rights of the Child and its protocols: The state of fulfilment by Armenia” ad hoc report and recommendations on issues of children highlighted in the program of RA Government.
