    Special Report on Young People and Adults with a Pervasive Developmental Disorder

    The Québec Ombudsman recently released a special report entitled Services Provided to Young People and Adults with a Pervasive Developmental Disorder: From Government Commitment to Cold Hard Facts. The report, submitted to the National Assembly, follows a first report released in October 2009 on services for children aged 0 to 7 years with pervasive developmental disorders (PDDs).

    EXCO Meeting in Addis Ababa, 15 – 16 September

    The Executive Committee of African Ombudsman & Mediators Association (AOMA) gathered in Addis Ababa from 15 to 16 September 2011 for an Executive Committee Meeting and the African Ombudsman Research Centre (AORC) Board meeting. The meeting was hosted by the Ethiopian Institution of the Ombudsman (EIO) .

    The Office of Citizen’s Aide/Ombudsman has published its annual report on 2011 containing statistical data regarding the 4,684 opened cases within this period, as well as information on special topics like ‘open-meetings’ and the redesign of Iowa’s mental health service system.

    The new edition of the e-newsletter of Ontario Ombudsman Andre Marin reports on the Ombudsman’s fifth year of investigating public complaints about closed municipal meetings.  Andre Marin plans to launch a special Annual Report on this matter later this year.

    Ombudsman demands citizen-friendly information on radioactive contamination level in food

    The European Ombudsman, P. Nikiforos Diamandouros, has asked the European Commission to provide citizen-friendly information about the maximum permitted levels of radioactive contamination of foodstuffs in the EU before and after the Fukushima accident in Japan. The Ombudsman's action follows several complaints from citizens suggesting a lack of information concerning the changes made to the maximum levels. The Ombudsman has asked the Commission to reply by 30 June 2011.

    I.O.I. training survey

    The I.O.I. Board decided in 2009 to focus on training activities which will help both to maintain and raise the level of professionalism in Ombudsman offices around the world. In order to identify the specific training the I.O.I. General Secretariat  has sent all member institutions a questionnaire that should help identifying their individual training needs. Based on recommendations by the Training Committee the Board will discuss and decide on future regional training activities.
