IOI welcomes Ombudsman of Santa Fe, Argentina, as a new member
During its mid-term meeting that took place from 7 to 8 May 2012 in Hong Kong, the IOI Board of Directors took decisions on several applications for individual, associate and institutional membership. Welcoming the new members to the IOI family the General Secretariat will present in the next newsletter editions the main facts and figures of each new member starting with the Ombudsman of Santa Fe, Argentina.

AOMA and African Union Commission (AUC) Intensify Cooperation
'The African Union Commission (AUC) and the African Ombudsman and Mediators Association (AOMA) have achieved another milestone in pursuit of their partnership in the pursuit of good governance in Africa' said AOMA Executive Secretary Adv. Thuli Madonsela at the conclusion of a coordinating meeting on the implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the AUC and AOMA on Friday 22, July 2012, in Luanda, Angola.

Soledad Becerril new Defensora del Pueblo de España
As of 23 July 2012, Soledad Becerril Bustamante is the new national Ombudswoman of Spain. Her appointment was approved by both Congress and Senate on 17 and 18 July 2012. Becerril is the first woman to take over this position. She has longstanding experience in the political field. In 1981 she became the first female Minister by assuming the department of culture.
