The NSW Ombudsman tabled the Public Interest Disclosures (PID) Act 2022: Agency self-assessment audit report 2025 in the Parliament of NSW on 11 December 2025. Following commencement of the PID Act in 2023, the institution conducted self-assessment audits in both 2024 and 2025 to test agency compliance with certain key requirements of the PID Act. This report details important findings from these audits.

Systemic Unfairness Found in Veterans Affairs Canada’s Internal Review Process
Veterans Ombud Colonel (Ret’d) Nishika Jardine released a report identifying systemic unfairness in the Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) Internal Review Process. Veterans use this process to appeal decisions for a wide range of benefits under the Veterans Health Care Regulations and parts of the Veterans Well-being Act.

Meeting of Public Defender’s Consultative Council for Monitoring Promotion, Protection and Implementation of CRPD
On 15 April 2024, the Consultative Council of the Public Defender of Georgia for Monitoring the Promotion, Protection and Implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities held its 35th session. The meeting of the Consultative Council of the Public Defender was held within the framework of the EU-funded project "Support to the Public Defender’s Office of Georgia".

Training for investigation officers from African Ombudsman institutions
A three-day training for investigation officers from African Ombudsman organisations will take place in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania from 2 to 4 January, 2014. The event will be hosted by the Commission for Human Rights and Good Governance (CHRAGG), Tanzania in cooperation with the IOI and the African Ombudsman Association (AOMA).

Malawi President assents to Ombudsman Amendment Bill
The President of the Republic of Malawi, Lazarus Chakwera, has assented to the Ombudsman Amendment Bill, effective 1 February 2024. Ombudsman Grace Malera hailed the Malawi Leader for signing the Bill into law which among other things provides clarity on the broadened mandate of the Office in terms of which organs of government can be investigated.

Public Defender introduces new Deputy Public Defender
On 29 January 2024, Public Defender Levan Ioseliani presented a new Deputy Public Defender of Georgia. Irine Chikhladze will coordinate and supervise the activities of the Department of Children's Rights, Gender Department, Department of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Equality Department and Regional Division of the Public Defender's Office.

The III Italian Edition of the International Ombudsman Conference will be held in Rome on 28 and 29 May 2026, at the Italian Parliament. This Conference represents an event of outstanding international significance, bringing together Ombudsmen, Mediators, experts, academics, and institutional representatives from numerous countries and continents, reaffirming the central role of oversight institutions in protecting fundamental rights and strengthening democratic systems.
