AORC summit to be held in Cape Town

Correctional Investigator releases report on chronic self-injury among sentenced women
The report draws attention to the fact that chronic self-injury among women offenders continues to be routinely met with control and security-focused responses. Ombudsman’s view on illegal control of a prisoner’s letter
The content of the letters written by prisoners to the authorities cannot be checked. However, such a situation occurred in Balassagyarmat Prison. Furthermore, in one case a disciplinary procedure was launched because of the tone of a letter. The Commissioner for Fundamental Rights has turned to the Director General of the Hungarian Prison Service to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Ontario Ombudsman André Marin today welcomed the provincial government’s announcement that it will extend his office’s mandate into the “MUSH sector” – the vast, provincially-funded broader public sector comprising municipalities, universities, school boards and hospitals, as well as long-term care homes, children’s aid societies and police.
