The Office of the Ombudsman (Malawi) is hosting the African regional training on "The role of Ombudsman Institutions in promoting and enforcing accountability ethics" as well as the 14th AOMA Executive Committee meeting from 5 - 9 February 2018 . The training will be held in the framework of the IOI's annual regional subsidy program and attended by IOI President Peter Tyndall.

NIPSO investigates complaint against Department for Infrastructure
The Public Services Ombudsman investigated a complaint by Belfast City Airport Watch Limited (BCAWL) regarding the actions of the Department of Environment in relation to George Best Belfast City Airport in failing to enforce the 2008 Planning Agreement between it and the Airport as well as concerning the handling of BCAWL’s complaint by the Department. The Ombudsman identified five instances of maladministration by the Department and made recommendations on the matter.

Ombudsman discusses findings of Magdalen Restorative Justice Scheme Investigation
An investigation carried out by Ombudsman Peter Tyndall in 2017 found that some women who worked in the Magdalen laundries in Ireland were wrongly refused access to the Magdalen Restorative Justice scheme. On Wednesday 31 January 2018 Ombudsman Peter Tyndall appeared before the Justice and Equality Committee of the Irish Parliament to discuss the findings of his report.

New Commissioner of Official Languages takes office
Raymond Théberge took office as Commissioner of Official Languages on January 29, 2018. He has a PhD in linguistics from McGill University, a master’s degree in applied linguistics from the University of Ottawa and a bachelor’s degree in history from the Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface. He held a number of leadership positions before coming to the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages, and he has significant experience with official language minority communities. He also has extensive experience in academia and has worked across Canada.

Suite aux débats parlementaires qui ont suivi la parution d’un article dans un quotidien intitulé « 3 000 malades mentaux parqués dans des maisons pirates », l’absence de cadre juridique concernant l’existence et le fonctionnement des SHNA a été constatée. Plusieurs députés wallons ont introduit une proposition de décret relative à l’hébergement et à l’encadrement à durée indéterminée pour personnes en difficultés sociales.

Inspector-General of Taxation reports into aspects of Pay As You Go instalments
The review into aspects of the Pay As You Go (PAYG) instalments system is the first Inspector-General of Taxation (IGT) review to be undertaken in direct response to insights drawn from the IGT’s complaint handling service. La Comisión Nacional de los Derechos Humanos (CNDH) presentó ante la Suprema Corte de Justicia de la Nación (SCJN) una acción de inconstitucionalidad contra distintos artículos de la Ley de Seguridad Interior (LSI) que generan la posibilidad de que se vulneren derechos humanos y libertades básicas reconocidas en favor de las y los mexicanos, además de afectar los gobernados en el diseño, equilibrio y facultades establecidas constitucionalmente entre la Federación y los estados, las instituciones, órganos del Estado y Poderes.
