Canada’s Veterans Ombudsman Guy Parent released today Transitioning Successfully: A Qualitative Study. The aim of the study was to better understand what contributes to a successful transition from military to civilian life for medically released Canadian Veterans, by interviewing Veterans who feel that they transitioned successfully, learning about their lived experience, and determining the factors, programs and services that help.

L’ombudsman des vétérans publie Faire une transition réussie : une étude qualitative
Guy Parent, l’ombudsman des vétérans du Canada, a publié aujourd’hui le document intitulé Faire une transition réussie : une étude qualitative. L’étude visait à mieux comprendre ce qui contribue à une transition réussie de la vie militaire à la vie civile pour les vétérans canadiens libérés pour des raisons médicales en interrogeant des vétérans qui considèrent avoir fait une transition réussie, en apprenant le genre d’expérience qu’ils ont vécue et en déterminant les facteurs, les programmes et les services qui les ont aidés.

Con el objetivo de promocionar los derechos de las personas privadas de la libertad y dar a conocer el mundo carcelario, se realizará la muestra de arte “Voces y Miradas de Libertad” en el marco de la Noche de los Museos que organiza el gobierno de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires. Será el sábado 4 de noviembre a partir de las 20hs hasta las 03hs en la sede de la Procuración Penitenciaria de la Nación, ubicada en Rodríguez Peña 90.

Ontario Ombudsman and International Ombudsman Institute co-host training session in Ontario
From Oct. 23 – Oct. 25, 2017, the Ontario Ombudsman’s Office presented three one-day workshops on managing unreasonable complainant conduct for its staff and participants from other North American oversight offices. Presented by Donald Sword of the New South Wales Ombudsman, the sessions focused on techniques and strategies for mitigating challenging complainant behaviour and mediating issues arising from that behaviour.

Ontario Ombudsman wraps up annual Sharpening Your Teeth investigative training, announces dates for 2018 training
The Ontario Ombudsman’s Office hosted its annual advanced investigative training for administrative watchdogs on Oct. 16 -18, 2017. “Sharpening Your Teeth,” or SYT for short, has trained more than 700 ombudsmen, investigators and other watchdog agency staff at this Toronto course, from throughout Ontario, Canada and the world.

La Procuración Penitenciaria remitió un informe de seguimiento al Comité de Derechos Humanos de la ONU
El informe fue elaborado en el marco del seguimiento de las Observaciones Finales del Comité de Derechos Humanos del año 2016 (disponible acá) sobre el quinto informe periódico de Argentina, en particular las observaciones sobre tortura y malos tratos (párr.14) y sobre condiciones de detención (párr. 24). En el transcurso de nueve años se han investigado y documentado 4312 casos de tortura y malos tratos.
