On Tuesday, 17 March 2015, 10 am (Eastern Standard Time) a webinar co-sponsored by the World Bank Governance Global Practice, the Open Government Partnership and the IOI will be held. The Webinare will deal with “Ombudsman Innovations for advancing Open Government” and presenters will include Toronto Ombudsman Fiona Crean and Scottish Ombudsman Jim Martin.

L’invisibilité grandissante et préoccupante des personnes exilées en Île-de-France compromet l’effectivité de leurs droits
La Défenseure des droits, Claire Hédon, et le président du Comité consultatif national d’éthique, le Professeur Jean-François Delfraissy se sont rendus le 3 juin auprès de personnes exilées et sans abri vivant dans des squats ou campements de fortune en Île de France. Pour aller au plus près de cette réalité, la Défenseure des droits et le président du CCNE ont pris part à une maraude à Bobigny et sur l’Île Saint Denis et ont participé à une distribution alimentaire à la Porte de la Villette. Un temps d’échange a également eu lieu avec les associations œuvrant auprès de ces personnes.

Results of recent surveys available
The IOI’s European Region carried out two surveys among its members. One survey focused on “Own Initiative Investigations” and the other one dealt with the “Implementation of the ADR Directive”, i.e. the EU’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Directive.

Victorian Ombudsman files application in Supreme Court
The Victorian Ombudsman has filed an application seeking a determination by the Supreme Court as to whether she has jurisdiction to investigate a recent referral from the Legislative Council.

Police stops in Europe: everyone has a right to equal treatment
A new paper by the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) reveals the differences between people’s experiences with police stops. It shows that Black people, Asians and Roma are still more likely to be stopped and searched by police, which also affects their trust in policing. FRA will continue providing EU countries with data and guidance to support them in ensuring their policing practices respect people’s fundamental rights.
