Passing away of Ms Carolyn Stieber

Extension of term of Chief Ombudsman Dame Beverley Wakem
The term of former IOI President and New Zealand Chief Ombudsman, Dame Beverley Wakem, is due to expire in March 2015. Given the fact that the Ombudsman’s Office is conducting an important review of the Official Information Act and currently also reviews its operating model, the Officers of Parliament Committee recommends an extension to the term of Chief Ombudsman Wakem until the end of 2015.

Karachi Metropolitain Corporation pays G.P. Fund to retired government servant
Karachi Metropolitain Corporation paid General Provident Fund to a retired government employee on the orders of Mr. Asad Ashraf Malik, Provincial Ombudsman Sindh (Pakistan). According to the details, the government servant had retired as Public Relation Officer. The department was delaying the legitimate dues of General Provident Fund, on flimsy pretexts.

One is about the "Procedures for Approval of Loan Applications and Recovery of Debts under the Non-means-tested Loan Scheme" while the other one is on "Education Bureau’s Non-disclosure of Teachers’ Registration Status".

Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights received “A” status
On 29 December 2014 based on the results of examination of two years of activities of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights the Bureau of the International Coordination Committee of National Human Rights Institutions (ICC NHRI) has granted to the Commissioner for Human Rights the “A” status - the highest status of compliance with the UN Paris Principles.

Ombudsman to examine complaints about private nursing homes
The public can now bring complaints about private nursing homes to Ombudsman Peter Tyndall. From 24 August 2015 the Ombudsman has had his powers extended so that he can independently examine complaints about private nursing homes in receipt of public funding under subvention or through the Nursing Home Support Scheme (also known as ‘Fair Deal’).
