Memorandum of Understanding signed with UNITAR
On 12 May 2022 the IOI signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) in a virtual signing ceremony in New York. Within the framework of this MoU, both organizations seek to develop and implement training and capacity building activities to empower Ombudsman institutions.

The Dutch National Ombudsman, the Ombudsman for Children and the Ombudsman for Veterans have today presented their Annual Report 2021 to the House of Representatives. In it, they note that the resignation of the Dutch government in early 2021, the March elections and the long process that followed in forming a government resulted in a year of government silence and official introspection.

New mandate for the Québec Ombudsman
A new law came into force in Québec on May 1, 2017. Under the Act to facilitate the disclosure of wrongdoings relating to public bodies, the Québec Ombudsman is mandated to handles disclosure of wrongdoing committed regarding any public body subject to the Act. From now on, whistleblowers will enjoy reliable, safe and independent recourse.

Exchange of ideas on environmental law enforcement at the Ombudsman’s office
On April 24, a conference on the experience gained in the implementation of the Directive on Environmental Liability on the level of the EU and in Hungary was held at the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights in Budapest. It was the sixth time that the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights has held a joint conference on environmental issues.
