Ombudsman attends symposium of Justice and Accountability Programme
The Office of the Ombudsman attended the closing symposium of the 5 year Justice and Accountability Programme called Chilungamo at Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe. Through this program, the office received funding to implement seven main activities which were packaged into four strategic areas of resolution of backlog of cases, public awareness, stakeholder engagement and capacity building.

Next Best Practice Paper deals with mediation as an effective tool in complaint investigation
The mediation process is a tool that enables personal interaction and respectful and direct dialogue for promoting dispute resolution. It has existed in many countries for several decades as an alternative to the classic complaint handling procedure. Issue 8 of the IOI’s Best Practice Paper series was developed by the Ombudsman and State Comptroller of Israel and draws on the office’s vast experience in this field.

Comparative study on digitalization of public services and the role of Ombudsman – podcast episode and article now available
The University of Applied Sciences Vienna (FH Campus Wien) has conducted a study on the role of Ombudsman institutions in the context of the growing digitalization of public services worldwide, to which IOI members contributed by filling in an online survey and by participating in interviews. Prof.(FH) Dr. Julia Dahlvik, the researcher behind this study, has now published a first article on her preliminary findings in a scientific journal and also featured in a podcast episode of the "Law in Action" podcast. New Nova Scotia Ombudsman took office
The Province of Nova Scotia has appointed Christine Brennan as Ombudsman. Ms. Brennan is an experienced leader who most recently served as acting Ombudsman. The appointment, for a term of five years, is effective immediately.
