2015-08-17Denying Patients the free Entitlement to Medicines is causing an Injustice that needs to be remedied
The report is on four cases that the Commissioner for Health investigated and about which he is at an impasse with Department of Health for the last two years. One case concerns a Type 2 diabetic patient who had been prescribed Glargine Insulin by his Consultant Diabetologist. The Department’s policy is to give this type of insulin only to Type 1 patients, and, therefore, the patient was denied the treatment needed. There must be, of course, other patients with the same predicament.

On 22 Januar 2025, the Ombudsman, Mr Jack Chan, announced the completion of a direct investigation operation into the Government’s work in combating the abuse of public housing resources, with 31 major recommendations for improvement made to the Hong Kong Housing Authority and the Hong Kong Housing Society.

For the first time in history, all the countries within the Kingdom of the Netherlands have an ombudsman, and for the first time, they convened in Aruba. The meeting took place from 13 till 15 January 2025.

2025-01-24Slovak Ombudsman visits Ombudsperson Schwetz
On 21 January 2025, the current Chairperson of the Austrian Ombudsman Board (AOB), Ms. Elisabeth Schwetz, welcomed the Public Defender of Rights of the Slovak Republic, Mr. Róbert Dobrovodský, and his delegation at the premises of the AOB. Mr. Dobrovodský was accompanied by staff members specialised in fundamental rights and NPM matters. The purpose of this inaugural visit was an exchange on thematic areas such as police matters and human rights.

On 20 March 2026, the Colourful as a Butterfly event took place in Krško to mark World Down Syndrome Day. The Human Rights Ombudswoman, Dr Simona Drenik Bavdek, addressed those present. She emphasised that this day provides an opportunity to reflect on the fundamental connectedness between people. She highlighted the importance of meeting and getting to know one another in order to build relationships, as this enables an understanding of an individual’s needs and creates space for support, assistance, and shared well-being.

El martes, el 24 de marzo de 2026, el Defensor del Pueblo, Ángel Gabilondo, ha registrado en las Cortes Generales el Informe anual de la actividad de la institución en 2025, y ha hecho entrega del mismo a la presidenta del Congreso de los Diputados, Francina Armengol. El Informe será entregado el próximo 9 de abril al presidente del Senado, Pedro Rollán, en el Palacio del Senado.
