Inspector-General of Taxation reports into aspects of Pay As You Go instalments
The review into aspects of the Pay As You Go (PAYG) instalments system is the first Inspector-General of Taxation (IGT) review to be undertaken in direct response to insights drawn from the IGT’s complaint handling service. The IGT has recommended a number of improvements to the Australian Taxation Office's (ATO) taxpayer communication and guidance materials as well as internal staff education and support.

Study visit by Sorbonne International Administration Student Association
On 11 December 2017 a group of the Sorbonne International Administration Student Association visited the headquarters of the International Ombudsman Institute in Vienna. The purpose of the visit was to gain an insight into the functioning of this global organization. IOI Secretary General Günther Kräuter answered the many questions this interested study group posed.

Banking Ombudsman issues 2016 Annual Report
The Banking Mohtasib (Ombudsman) Pakistan has issued the twelfth Annual Report for the year ending 31 December, 2016. Like the previous reports, the current annual report also includes analysis of systemic deficiencies and control weaknesses in banks which the Banking Mohtasib came across during the course of investigations of complaints in the year under review.

New Commonwealth Ombudsman and annual reports published
The Office of the Commonwealth Ombudsman (the Office) has produced three annual reports: Commonwealth Ombudsman Annual Report 2016–17, ACT Ombudsman Annual Report 2016–17 and the ACT Judicial Council Annual Report 2016–17 (not published online). This year marked the 40th anniversary of the Office of the Commonwealth Ombudsman. While it was an occasion to reflect on its many achievements of the past 40 years, the Office looks with excitement to the future.

Ombudsman discusses findings of Magdalen Restorative Justice Scheme Investigation
An investigation carried out by Ombudsman Peter Tyndall in 2017 found that some women who worked in the Magdalen laundries in Ireland were wrongly refused access to the Magdalen Restorative Justice scheme. On Wednesday 31 January 2018 Ombudsman Peter Tyndall appeared before the Justice and Equality Committee of the Irish Parliament to discuss the findings of his report.

Ten financial institutions in Taiwan are currently participating in a program focused on implementing the government's senior citizen reverse mortgage policy. An investigation of the Control Yuan has resulted in specific recommendations to the government for further improving the program.

Avoidable death of woman after multiple failings following routine hip operation
In December 2014, Mrs L went to a pre-operative assessment at the Trust ahead of her hip replacement surgery. Tests showed that she had high blood pressure and high levels of creatinine which indicated that her kidney function was impaired. A few days later, an anaesthetist checked these results and said that her hip operation could go ahead.

Ombudsman investigation recommends improvements in HSE’s Treatment Abroad Scheme
Ombudsman Peter Tyndall has today published a report following his investigation into the HSE’s administration of the Treatment Abroad Scheme. The investigation followed complaints to the Ombudsman about the scheme including suggestions that it was overly complex, that there were delays in approving applications and that some applicants were being given incorrect information.
