The office of the Ombudsman published its 2015 report on systematic visits carried out by the public defender of rights. This report list the risks (ill-treatment of clients) posed by facilities providing care without authorisation (the “unregistered residential social services facilities”) and explain why good co-operation among all governmental authorities is necessary to penalise these facilities.

Recommendations for improving the situation of Spanish nationals detained in prisons overseas
The Ombudsman, Soledad Becerril, has presented a study on the situation of Spanish prisoners abroad which analyses 224 complaints dealt with by the Institution in the last two years, and makes recommendations for improving the situation that the prisoners find themselves in.

First IOI NPM Training on „Implementing a Preventive Mandate“ successfully held in Riga, Latvia
IOI Secretary General, Günther Kräuter, opened the first IOI Training specifically designed for Ombudsman Institutions functioning as National Preventive Mechanism (NPM). The 2,5-day learning experience was hosted by the Ombudsman of the Republic of Latvia.

Newly Appointed Chairman of the ACRC of Korea
On December 23th, 2015, Mr. Sung Yung-hoon took office as the chairman of the Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Commission of Korea, succeeding Mr. Lee Sungbo who has been a valuable member of the IOI Board and whose term expired on December 10th.

Anti-Corruption training in Curaçao
Following the very successful anti-corruption training programme conducted by the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) in 2013, the IOI is pleased to inform you that a second and updated edition of the IOI’s anti-corruption training programme will be held in Curaçao on 27 and 28 May 2015 during the 8th Biennial Conference of Caribbean Ombudsman Association (CAROA).

International working group on introduction of declaration on NHRIs role in conflict and post-conflict situations
In October 2015, representatives of national institutions of 20 countries of the world unanimously adopted the Kyiv Declaration on the "Role of NHRIs in Conflict and Post-conflict Situations" following results of work of a two-day international conference of the same name.
