IACA is receiving applications for master programme
The International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) is receiving applications for its master programmes, i.e. the Master in Anti-Corruption Studies (MACS), the International Master in Anti-Corruption Compliance and Collective Action (IMACC), the Master in Anti-Corruption and Diplomacy (MACD), and the Spanish programme of a Máster en Estudios Anticorrupción y Compliance (MACC). Applications for 2022 classes are still open.

Given the rapidly ageing population across Europe, National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) in the region are increasingly working on the promotion and protection of the rights of older persons. In order to understand specific human rights challenges in old age, it is crucial for NHRIs to directly engage with older persons including through their representative organisations and bring real lived experiences into their work.

Guidance on monitoring places of detention through the COVID-19 Pandemic
In June 2020, the APT in partnership with OSCE/ODIHR, elaborated a practical guidance on how NPMs can continue their monitoring functions in order to address the challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. The French and Spanish versions of the guidance are now available online.

Report 2019 - more than 51,000 requests and 9,800 new instructed processes
In 2019, the Ombudsman received 51,313 requests through the various channels available to citizens (6.6% more than in 2018), and 9823 complaint procedures were opened, representing an increase of 5% in relation to 2018. Compared with 2017, the growth in new complaint procedures is 26%; taking 2016 as a reference, the increase is 42%.

Respect older people’s rights when exiting the COVID-19 pandemic
Many older people in care homes fell victim to COVID-19. Many also faced months of isolation and restrictions often harsher than those enforced for other parts of the population. The EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) looks at how the pandemic affected the rights of older people. It highlights the need for a rights-based approach as governments shape their exit strategies.
