2018-07-20Ombudsman Sindh takes action against discrimination in police department
Mr. Haseeb Ahmed approached the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh Mr. Asad Ashraf Malik stating that he was son of a Police Officer who laid down his life in line of duty. He was appointed as Police Constable against shaheed (martyr) quota and was not considered for appointment as Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police, whereas 45 other persons were appointed as ASI under same quota and he was ignored & discriminated. He was eligible to be appointed as ASI as he fulfilled the required qualification. This was a glaring example of discrimination.

Ombudsman Deborah Glass has begun investigating whether State Trustees is acting in the best interests of its vulnerable clients. Ms Glass said the investigation would examine State Trustees’ role as an administrator for people who are unable to manage their financial and legal affairs due to disability, illness or injury.

La institución del Valedor do Pobo emitió una recomendación a la AXencia Galega para a Modernización TecnolóXica de Galicia (AMTEGA) priorice la transición a software libre de todos los servicios que pone la Xunta de Galicia a disposición de la ciudadanía. La institución da por aceptada una recomendación en la que se instó a priorizar la adaptación de los procedimientos electrónicos a software sin licencia, en especial los de concurrencia competitiva y que sólo admiten una tramitación electrónica.

Ombudsman Hong Kong to investigate allocation of swimming lanes in public swimming pools
On 17 July 2018, the Ombudsman, Ms Connie Lau, announced a direct investigation into the mechanism of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) for allocating swimming lanes in public swimming pools to examine whether the mechanism is effective and the department has fulfilled its responsibility as the monitoring authority.

Appointment of new Chief Commissioner (Ombudsman)
The Hon. Chille W. Igbawua has been appointed as the new Chief Commissioner of the Public Complaints Commission (Ombudsman) of Nigeria. The Chief Commissioner was inaugurated by the Nigerian Parliament on 23 May 2018; his term will run for the next three years.

Mercredi 27 juin au Sénat, la commission des affaires sociales a étudié le projet de loi pour la liberté de choisir son avenir professionnel adopté par l'Assemblée nationale. Le projet de loi est examiné au Sénat, en séance publique, ce mardi 10 juillet. Au titre de sa mission de lutte contre les discriminations et de promotion de l’égalité, le Défenseur des droits a émis un avis sur le projet de loi le 28 mai dernier.
