2025-03-14El Defensor del Pueblo conmemora el 8M con un acto homenaje a las mujeres gitanas
El 7 de marzo de 2025 el Defensor del Pueblo, Ángel Gabilondo, ha manifestado que “las mujeres gitanas constituyen una comunidad que no se rinde a estereotipos ni a tópicos, que no se deja reducir a clichés predeterminados”. Así lo ha afirmado durante un acto institucional que ha tenido lugar en la sede del Defensor del Pueblo el viernes para conmemorar y reivindicar el Día Internacional de la Mujer. En un año en el que se conmemora el 600 aniversario de la llegada de los gitanos a la península ibérica, la institución Defensor del Pueblo ha querido homenajear a la mujer gitana. El lema del evento ha sido “Mujeres gitanas en España: 600 años de desafío y superación”.

Le nouveau Secrétaire général Bernhard Achitz prend ses fonctions
Le 10 mars 2025, M. Bernhard Achitz a pris ses fonctions de nouveau Secrétaire général de l'Institut International de l'Ombudsman. Il succède à Gaby Schwarz à ce poste important et se réjouit de poursuivre le travail et les services importants que l'IIO fournit à ses membres dans le monde entier. Il remercie Mme Schwarz pour son fort engagement et service à l'IIO.

Naveed Kamran Baloch takes over as 9th regular Mohtasib (Federal Ombudsman) of Pakistan
Mr. Naveed Kamran Baloch took oath of his office on 4 March, 2026 as the 9th regular Wafaqi Mohtasib (Federal Ombudsman) of Pakistan for a four-year term. The oath was administered by the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Mr. Asif Ali Zardari, at a ceremony held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad.

In the year 2024, the Provincial Ombudsman Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded a significant surge in complaints, totaling over 5,348 cases with 4,043 complaints disposal - a notable increase from the previous year. This substantial rise in complaints filed with the Ombudsman Office indicates a growing awareness among the general public about their rights and the available avenues for redress.

Public Services Ombudsman for Wales publishes follow-up report on support for unpaid carers
On 4 March 2026, the Office of the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales published ‘Are we caring for our carers? Revisited’, a follow-up to their 2024 Own Initiative investigation into how Welsh local authorities identify, assess and support unpaid carers. The original investigation examined whether 4 local authorities were meeting their statutory duties under the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014. While examples of good practice were identified, it was found that only a small proportion of carers received assessments of their needs, and many were unaware of their rights or the support available.
