Ombudsman’s Quarterly Review
The Chief Ombudsman, Peter Boshier, was in March elected as Second Vice President of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI). Mr Boshier has served on the board of the IOI, a global organisation made up of more than 200 independent ombudsman institutions from more than 100 countries, since 2016. The Ombudsman New Zealand has been a part of the IOI since its inception in 1978.

NHRC Releases Independent Opinion on the Second National Report on the CRC
On April 1, 2022, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) released the Independent Opinion on the Second National Report on the Convention of the Rights of the Child (CRC). In her speech, NHRC Chairperson Chen Chu reiterated the Commission’s commitment to listening to children and working to protect the mental and physical development.

Hong Kong Ombudsman announces results of investigation into effectiveness of rodent prevention by Food and Environmental Hygiene Department
The Ombudsman, Ms Winnie Chiu, today (26 May) announced the completion of a direct investigation into the effectiveness of rodent prevention and control by the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department ("FEHD"), identifying three areas for improvement in the FEHD’s work on rodent surveillance, rodent prevention and disinfestation, and application of rodent-related complaint data.

Victorian Ombudsman’s investigation into Environment Protection Authority decisions on West Gate Tunnel Project
Following concerns from local communities near three sites in Bulla, Bacchus Marsh and Ravenhall approved by the EPA for the dumping of PFAS-affected spoil from the West Gate Tunnel Project, the Ombudsman announced an investigation in August 2021.
