2022-07-072021 Report: Cases handled rise 6% to a new high
In 2021, a record volume of 12,219 new cases were processed, as a result of a 6% annual increase in the number of complaints admitted. Based on 2017, the beginning of the first mandate of the current Ombudsman, Maria Lúcia Amaral, the accumulated growth in the number of new complaints processed is 57%.

On 5 July 2022, Mr. Werner Amon resigned from his posts as Ombudsman of the Republic of Austria and consequently, as IOI Secretary General due to a new professional opportunity in his home State of Styria, where he took on the position of Minister for European and International Affairs, Education, and Human Resources of the State of Styria.

The CHRAJ as an Institution was given a standing ovation by members of the network of NHRI’s West Africa for the insightful leadership the Commissioner provides and great hosting of the Network’s Secretariat in Ghana.
