Public Services Ombudsman for Wales publishes Annual Report
In his Annual Report, laid before the National Assembly for Wales on 20 June 2012, the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales, Peter Tyndall, reveals that once again there has been an increase in the volume of casework at his office. Enquiries rose by 66% compared to 2010/11. Complaints about public bodies were up by 13% overall with complaints about health bodies up 55% on the previous year.

AOMA and African Union Commission (AUC) Intensify Cooperation
'The African Union Commission (AUC) and the African Ombudsman and Mediators Association (AOMA) have achieved another milestone in pursuit of their partnership in the pursuit of good governance in Africa' said AOMA Executive Secretary Adv. Thuli Madonsela at the conclusion of a coordinating meeting on the implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the AUC and AOMA on Friday 22, July 2012, in Luanda, Angola.

The X Baku Conference of Ombudsman Took Place
With support of UNESCO the X Baku Conference of Ombudsman took place from 18th to 20th June. Azerbaijan Commissioner of Human Rights, Elmira Suleymanova was pleased to welcome participants from all over the world, including representatives of Canada, Mexico, China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, and Turkey who joined the Baku Conference for the first time.

FRA presents Annual Report
The FRA Annual Report 2011 provides in-depth evidence and analysis of fundamental rights developments in the EU, its Member States and Croatia. It points out achievements, such as national reforms in child protection systems and efforts to shorten the length of court proceedings as well as EU legislative and policy measures in, for example, the areas of victim protection, human trafficking and Roma integration.

Participate in Research Project on Role of Complaints in Stimulating Innovation
In the framework of a joint Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, and Stirling University research project on complaints as a driver of innovation and service improvement in public services the two universities are currently conducting a global scan for interesting examples which could be included in a series of case studies which will be published by NESTA (National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts).

Ombudsman Board becomes "human rights house of the Republic of Austria"
From 1 July 2012 the Austrian Ombudsman Board (AOB) exerts its new mandate that from now on also includes the protection and promotion of human rights making the AOB the “human rights house of the Republic of Austria”.

Ombudsman becomes active on the Act on Nationalities
Certain provisions of the Act on Nationalities, which entered into force on 1 January 2012, are contrary to the Fundamental Law and restrict the fundamental rights of nationalities – the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights has requested the Constitutional Court to establish this and to annul the text parts indicated in his petition.

Advisory Council to the Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights was created
The Advisory Council was created with the purpose of rendering advisory support to the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, holding scientific researches, and also consideration of suggestions concerning the improvement of the state of protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms by means of effective using of potential of civil society institutions
