The Office of the Ombudsman recognized integrity champions of the youth during its Campus Integrity Crusaders Awards Ceremony on 30 August 2024. Spearheaded by Deputy Ombudsman Jose Balmeo, Jr., Assistant Ombudsman Janina Hidalgo and Director Rhodora Fenix-Galicia, the Office awarded seven outstanding school organizations for the successful implementation of its enrolled activities promoting integrity, social responsibility and gender and development.

The Chief Ombudsman’s latest self-initiated investigations into official information practices will include two council-controlled organisations for the first time. Peter Boshier has announced investigations of Auckland Transport and Wellington Water along with the Wellington City Council, Queenstown Lakes District Council and Marlborough District Council.

2022-01-07Chancellor of Justice received the highest international recognition
The Chancellor of Justice received the A-status accreditation as a national human rights institution by the GANHRI Sub-Committee on Accreditation (SCA). The decision on accreditation preceded by a submission of a comprehensive statement on the independence, mandate and composition of the institution of the Chancellor of Justice, and an oral hearing by the SCA in December last year.

Recommendations were set on the basis of extensive research among EU citizens living in the Czech Republic. More than a thousand people, proportionally represented not only by nationality, but also by education or their residence in the Czech Republic, described their experiences in dealing with the authorities, health care or education.

2024-09-12Pregnant woman turned away after Ealing council uses outdated definition of domestic abuse, Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman says
Ealing council wrongly turned away a pregnant woman who approached it for help with housing, despite police and other agencies saying it was not safe for her to return to her tenancy in another area. The Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman was asked to investigate. It found the council used an outdated, narrow definition of domestic abuse, limiting it to physical attacks.
