Ombudsman reminded leaders on 13 days period to submit annual returns
The Ombudsman of the Republic of Vanuatu, Mr Hamlison Bulu yesterday reminded all persons who are classified as leaders pursuant to Article 67 of the Constitution of the Republic of Vanuatu and Section 5 of the Leadership Code Act that they only have 13 days to submit their annual returns.

Public Defender’s special statement on situation in penitentiary establishments
In 2020, the Public Defender of Georgia published a special report, in which she talked about the fact that the management model of semi-open establishments was based on informal hierarchy of prisoners, where the so-called "prison watchers" provide fictitious order, which aims to silence prisoners and prevent them from talking about their problems. The publication of this report was followed by public attacks on the Public Defender and illegal actions by the Minister of Justice and the Penitentiary Service. As a result, it has becomedangerous for the representatives of the Public Defender's Office to carry out visits and monitoring at the penitentiary establishments.

Citizens right to free and fair elections
With the election period drawing near, the Office draws attention to various developments causing concern with regard to the individual’s right to properly participate in the forthcoming political elections. Some of these developments include village council activities that may be discriminatory or coercive of the individual in their effect; and campaign committees influencing voters’ preference by unscrupulous means including bribery.

New Ombudsman takes office
Dr. Marcin Wiącek, who was elected as the new Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Poland on 23 July 2021, took office. He succeeds Mr Adam Bodnar, who completed his term of office earlier this year.

COVID-19 presents Iowa Ombudsman with new wave of complaints in 2020
The COVID-19 pandemic tested state and local governments in ways never imagined, and the proof was in the complaints. The Iowa Office of Ombudsman received a surge of citizen complaints on all manner of issues related to COVID: slow decisions on unemployment claims, the closure of public buildings, difficulties in access to social services – even a stoppage of garbage collection. The challenges were detailed in the Ombudsman’s fiscal year 2020 annual report, released today.

Investigation into homelessness review process in Wales finds evidence of “systemic maladministration”

Covid-19 and access to health care services for persons affected by HIV and TB

Commissioners of CCAC and ICAC meet by videoconferencing
Recently, the Commissioner of the Commission Against Corruption (CCAC) of Macao, Chan Tsz King, and the Commissioner of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) of Hong Kong, Simon Peh Yun-lu, held a meeting through videoconferencing and exchanged views on the works of integrity building of Macao and Hong Kong. According to Chan Tsz King, Macao and Hong Kong will hold their own election for legislative members this year and many challenges are lying ahead of them due to factors such as the pandemic.
