    La PPN y el Comisionado Parlamentario Penitenciario del Uruguay ejecutaron la 3ra etapa del proyecto de cooperación técnica internacional FO.AR

    Con el objetivo de continuar el fortalecimiento de las capacidades técnicas en la promoción y protección de los derechos humanos de las personas privadas de libertad, una comitiva de la PPN integrada por el Procurador Penitenciario, la Jefa del Área de Investigación y Documentación Eficaces de Casos de Tortura y/o Malos Tratos, Dra. Paula Ossientinsky; la Jefa del Área de Extranjeros en Prisión y Argentinos Privados de la Libertad en el Exterior, Dra. Jennifer Wolf; y la asesora de la Dirección de Cooperación y Asuntos Internacionales, Dra. Julieta Reyes, desarrollaron la tercera etapa del proyecto del Fondo Argentino de Cooperación Sur- Sur y Triangular (FO.AR) dependiente de la Dirección General de Cooperación Internacional del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores y Culto de la Nación junto con la Agencia Uruguaya de Cooperación Internacional (AUCI) en Montevideo, Uruguay.

    Acting New South Wales Ombudsman releases Child Death Review Team Annual Report 2016-17

    The Acting Ombudsman and Convenor of the NSW Child Death Review Team (CDRT), Professor John McMillan AO, tabled the CDRT’s annual report for 2016-17. The work that the CDRT does is focused on one key outcome – to prevent the deaths of children. The report details the degree to which the CDRT’s recommendations to prevent or reduce the likelihood of child deaths have been accepted by government, and the progress being made by agencies to implement them.

    Start of IOI membership evaluation process

    The IOI has started the first phase of its membership evaluation process, which will be conducted on a rolling basis. The first 60 members have received the evaluation forms in our three official languages and can choose which one suits them best. We highly appreciate your active participation in this confidential evaluation, which has a non-punititve charater. The final report of this membership evaluation process will be presented by the Office of the Secretary General at the 2020 World Conference in Dublin.

    The Ombudsman of Sint Maarten, Ms. Gwendolien Mossel, recently published the 2021 year report. In 2021, a total of sixty-four (64) new complaints were filed and two (2) systemic investigations were initiated by the Ombudsman.

    Chief Ombudsman issues opinion on seclusion complaint

    New Zealand’s Chief Ombudsman Peter Boshier has released his final opinion on the complaint concerning the seclusion of a child at Ruru Specialist School. He underlined that the family had been let down by the school and education agencies, and acknowledged the subsequent changes to legislation that prohibit the use of seclusion in any New Zealand school.

    Ontario Ombudsman publishes Annual Report 2021-2022

    Ontario Ombudsman Paul Dubé on August 10, 2022 reported that public concerns and complaints to the provincial watchdog have returned almost to pre-pandemic levels. His office fielded 25,161 complaints and inquiries in fiscal 2021-2022, an increase of 25% over the previous year. Most (52%) were resolved in two weeks or less.
