ECJ rules on discrimination against homosexual employees in a PACS arrangement
After being refused certain benefits on the ground that they were only granted to employees on the occasion of their marriage under a collective agreement, a French citizen, who had entered into a PACS arrangement (civil solidarity pact), challenged that refusal before the French courts.

Acting Public Services Ombudsman for Wales appointed
In light of Peter Tyndall’s departure to take up the post of Irish Ombudsman and Information Commissioner, the National Assembly for Wales has appointed Professor Margaret Griffiths as Acting Public Services Ombudsman for Wales. The National Assembly for Wales will now conduct a full and open recruitment process to appoint a permanent successor to Peter Tyndall.

Correctional Investigator, Mr. Howard Sapers, noted that recent inmate population growth is almost exclusively driven by increases in the composition of ethnically and culturally diverse offenders

Commissioner on social care workers’ wage system
In the recent months the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights has received several complaints concerning the wage system of social care workers. The complaints referred to the fact that, as far as remuneration is concerned, social care workers are not treated in the same way as those working in the healthcare system and licenced by the Office of Health Authorisation and Administrative Procedures.
