Encuentro internacional de defensores locales en Girona (Catalunya) para reivindicar el papel de las ciudades en la defensa de los Derechos Humanos. El Congreso Internacional de Ombudsman Locales tuvo lugar el pasado noviembre bajo el lema, ‘Pensamos globalmente, defendemos localmente’ y con los objetivos de poner en valor a las defensorías locales, mantener el impulso de su creación y reivindicar el papel de las ciudades y de sus ombudsman en la defensa de los Derechos Humanos.

The IOI is conducting some preliminary research on the implementation and effectiveness of Ombudsman recommendations. A key focus of this project will be on Ombudsman recommendations and the IOI is interested in hearing about how you make recommendations to bring about change and examples of your work which have led to improvements for service users.

Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights presents alternative report on the rights of women in Ukraine
The Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights presented its alternative report on the fulfillment of the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women to portrait the Commissioner’s view of a situation with observance of the rights of women in Ukraine. The presentation was attended by People's Deputies of Ukraine, representatives of the central executive bodies, the National Police and representatives of the international and public organizations.

Veterans Ombudsman releases status update on recommendations
The Veterans Ombudsman has posted a status update on all the recommendations made by the Office since its inception. To date, it has made 57 recommendations and, of these, the Government has fully or partially implemented 37, leaving 20 still to be addressed.

IOI President and Information Commissioner for Ireland Peter Tyndall participated at the Berlin Meeting of Freedom of Information Commissioners and Ombudsmen where delegates from all over Europe discussed their experiences of Freedom of Information, using civic technology to enforce the right to information or the use of FOI by NGOs.
