Ombudsman criticizes authority after visit to Alytus Correction House
Having assessed the human rights situation in Alytus Correction House, the Seimas Ombudsman Mr. A. Normantas noted that there is not enough space for inmates in wheelchairs to move freely within the cells. The bathrooms are too narrow, and the stairs leading to a canteen and library as well as the odontologist, family doctor and psychologist are not adjusted for the use of people with disabilities.

Ombudsman releases second annual report
The Bahrain Ombudsman, the first Independent Ombudsman in the Region, presents its second annual report. The Office investigates complaints against employees of the Ministry of the Interior (MOI) and has the important role of ensuring that prisoners and detainees are treated appropriately and are not subject to torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment.

Ombudsman urges education providers to learn from complaints
Following an invitation from Ireland’s Institutes of Technology Ombudsman Peter Tyndall met with them in Galway on Thursday 18 August to highlight his role in examining complaints from the public about the third-level education sector. At the meeting the Ombudsman urged all providers of public services to use complaints as a source of learning. He also encouraged students who are unable to resolve complaints locally to bring their complaint to his Office.
