New Members of the Austrian Ombudsman Board
On 1 July 2013 the new members of the Austrian Ombudsman Board (AOB) took office. Günther Kräuter, Gertrude Brinek and Peter Fichtenbauer were elected by the Austrian National Council for the term of office from July 2013 to June 2019. For Gertrude Brinek it is already the second term of office. In its inaugural meeting the new AOB appointed Günther Kräuter as Secretary General of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI).

Special report of the Québec Ombudsman leads to legislative changes
In May 2013, the Québec National Assembly adopted the Act to amend the Police Act as concerns independent investigations. This Act was the result of the recommendations of the Ombudsperson, Raymonde Saint-Germain, in her special report on the investigation procedure applied in Québec for incidents involving police officers.

Ombudsman criticises order on immediate expulsion
Foreigners must not be expelled at Czech airports immediately, on the basis of the ombudsman's opinion. The ombudsman criticised the order on immediate expulsion and therefore the foreigner police must not apply it any longer. A decision on expulsion must be always issued in regular administrative proceedings.

Acting Manitoba Ombudsman Mel Holley has released the Ombudsman's Annual Report under The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and The Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) for the calendar year 2012. Ombudsman’s prison investigation
For the first time in the history of the Prison and Penitentiary of Sopronkőhida, built in 1886, the Ombudsman conducted an investigation which revealed that inmates spend their lengthy imprisonment in cramped cells and fewer psychologists than needed are available.

Ombudsman publishes 2012 Report in Portuguese
The Report reveals that in 2012 the Portuguese Ombudsman opened 7027 cases, of which 7015 stemmed from a complaint and 12 from his own initiative. This represented an increase of 1215 cases, i.e. 21%, in relation to 2011. In total, 27218 complainants addressed the Ombudsman.
