Ombudsman releases updated version of “Fairness by Design: An Administrative Fairness Assessment Guide”
This "Fairness by Design" guide is an assessment tool that can be used by public organizations across Canada to ensure they have fair decision-making processes and are fair in the design and delivery of their programs. The guide was developed by the Canadian Council of Parliamentary Ombudsman (CCPO).

Statement on independence of Public Protector South Africa
The Public Protector South Africa, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, was suspended from office on 9 June 2022. The Public Protector has been a loyal and respected contributor to the IOI and its work for many years. The IOI therefore publishes a statement to voice its concern that any hearings in the National Assembly are conducted in fairness and in line with international standards.

Ombudsman pushes Royal Thai Police to streamline criminal record database
In 2020, the Ombudsman received a complaint from the Faculty of Law of Thammasat University, in relation to the Royal Thai Police Regulation on fingerprinting and record keeping. Pursuant to this regulation, information remains in the criminal record database, even when the prosecutor decides not to press charges.

The European Union’s Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) shares its newly published report on “Europe's civil society: still under pressure – Update 2022”. The report focuses on the key role civil society plays in fostering a rule of law culture. It cites good practice examples from across the EU.

Regional meeting held in New Zealand
The IOI’s Australasian & Pacific Region (APOR) held a conference on 13 October 2022 and its 34th annual members’ meeting on 14 October 2022 in Wellington, New Zealand. The conference, on remaining relevant and getting government to listen, was co-hosted by Victorian Ombudsman Deborah Glass OBE as Regional President and New Zealand Chief Ombudsman and IOI 2nd Vice President Peter Boshier.

Croatian Ombudswoman publishes new Special Report
Ombudswoman Tena Šimonović Einwalter submitted a special report to the Croatian Parliament entitled “The Impact of the COVID-19 Epidemic on Human Rights and Equality – Recommendations for the Strengthening of Resilience to Future Crises.” The Report analyses the impact of the epidemic during the course of 2020 and 2021 and provides 72 recommendations with the aim of encouraging and directing the process of the strengthening of Croatia’s resilience to crises.

In accordance with the Ombudsman Act, the Danish Parliamentary Ombudsman submits an annual report on his work to the Danish Parliament. The international edition of the 2021 Annual Report of the Danish Parliamentary Ombudsman seeks to share information and experiences internationally with colleagues and others with a special interest in ombudsman work. This report contains elements from our Danish report but also elements that are unique to this international version.

A place to share major anti-corruption acts and systems in Korea, such as the Act on the Prevention of Conflict of Interest Related to Duties of Public Servants, Integrity Assessment, Corruption and Public Interest Reporters Protection System, with anti-corruption agencies in four countries, including Moldova and Mongolia, was arranged.
