Deputy Ombudsman becomes Acting Ombudsman of Ontario
Barbara Finlay has assumed the role of Ombudsman of Ontario (Acting), effective 1 April 2026, pending the Legislative Assembly’s appointment of a permanent Ombudsman. She takes over from Paul Dubé, who completed his second five-year term the previous day.

La Défenseure des droits publie son rapport annuel pour l’année 2025
Chaque année, le Défenseur des droits rend compte de son action dans les cinq missions qui lui sont dévolues : défense des droits et libertés des usagers des services publics, défense et promotion des droits de l'enfant, lutte contre les discriminations et promotion de l'égalité, respect de la déontologie par les professionnels de la sécurité, orientation et protection des lanceurs d'alerte. Le rapport d’activité de l’année 2025 fait le bilan des réclamations instruites par l’institution et des travaux menés dans ces cinq domaines. Il présente, en creux, un état de la société à travers les atteintes au droit constatées dans l’année écoulée.

L’Ombudsman adjointe devient l’Ombudsman intérimaire de l’Ontario
Barbara Finlay assume le rôle d’Ombudsman de l’Ontario (par intérim), à compter le 1 avril 2026, en attendant que l’Assemblée législative nomme un(e) Ombudsman permanent(e). Elle succède à Paul Dubé, dont le second mandat de cinq ans s’est terminé la veille.

Cinco defensorías del pueblo apuestan por medidas alternativas en la resolución de los conflictos que les plantean los ciudadanos
El 5 de febrero de 2025 se ha celebrado el acto de firma del Acuerdo de las defensorías sobre la cultura de la justicia restaurativa, el diálogo, la conciliación, el acuerdo y la reparación, que busca impulsar las medidas alternativas de resolución de conflictos en las quejas que llegan a estas instituciones de defensa de derechos. El Acuerdo, impulsado por la síndica de greuges, también ha sido firmado por el defensor del pueblo andaluz; el ararteko (País Vasco); la diputada del Común (Canarias) y la arartekoa (Navarra).

Rome hosts celebrations for the 45th anniversary of the Lazio Region Civic Defender: participants to be received by Pope Francis
On the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the Lazio Region Civic Defender, a major international event will be held in Rome, organized by Marino Fardelli, President of the Italian Civic Defenders, Civic Defender of the Lazio Region, and member of the European Board of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI). Adding further prestige to the initiative will be the general audience with Pope Francis on the morning of April 9, during which participants will be welcomed by the Holy Father.
