PCC embarks on nationwide intensive training for staff in all its 36 state offices
In a bid to enhance staff capabilities and align with international best practices, the Public Complaints Commission has commenced a nationwide training program for all its staff nationwide. The training, which began on the 13th of May, 2024, saw enthusiastic participation from employees at levels 8 to 15, with staff from all 36 states converging at their respective state offices.

Ombudsman Commission Hosts Leadership Training For District Development Authority Executives (DDA) & Heads of Secretariats
The Ombudsman Commission recently hosted a comprehensive training program in Goroka, Eastern Highlands Province on 8 March 2024 and at the National Capital District on 14 March 2024. The training was aimed at enhancing the understanding of the Chief Executive Officers of the District Development Authority (DDA) and the Heads of Secretariats regarding their roles and responsibilities as leaders.

BC Ombudsperson sees youth in custody at risk due to ministry inaction
The BC Ombudsperson has identified a serious lack of progress by the Ministry of Children and Family Development on a 2021 Ombudsperson report with troubling findings about separate confinement of youth in custody centres. “The ministry’s inaction continues to expose vulnerable youth in its care to the risk of significant harm from separate confinement, especially Indigenous youth,” said Ombudsperson Jay Chalke.

ACRC advocates for easier access to residence in public rental housing for day laborers at small-scale construction sites
The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission recommended the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport to include day laborers at construction sites in the list of those eligible for additional points when selecting tenants of public rental housing in cases where they have worked as day laborers in the construction industry for at least one year, even if they have not put money aside for a deductible fund.

Ombudsman attends IOI Regional Board meeting in Mexico City
The Ombudsman of Sint Maarten, Ms. Gwendolien Mossel, recently attended the Caribbean and Latin American Regional Board of Directors meeting of the International Ombudsman Institute, which was held from March 11-14, 2024 in Mexico City. Among other, a primary topic was the migratory wave in the region. Veterans Ombud Letter To Minister On Fairness Gap Affecting Veterans’ Families
On 7 May 2024, Colonel (Ret’d) Nishika Jardine, Veterans Ombud, released her letter to the Minister of Veterans Affairs on the fairness gap currently affecting some Veterans and their relatives. According to the Ombud, Veterans Affairs Canada’s (VAC) Veterans Independence Program policy may exclude access to care-at-home supports when Veterans’ family members live with them.
