Public Services Ombudsman for Wales publishes report on investigation of a complaint against Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board
On 8 April 2025, the Public Service Ombudsman for Wales published a new Public Interest report highlighting significant shortcomings in the patient’s post-operative care, failures in the informed consent process and inadequate contract monitoring arrangements in place between Betsi Cadwalader University Health Board and Health Trusts in England.

ACRC Announces “2025 Basic Plan for Comprehensive Integrity Assessment of Public Institutions”
The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC, Chairperson Ryu Chul Whan) finalized the 2025 Basic Plan for the Comprehensive Integrity Assessment of Public Institutions on the 24th of February 2025. A comprehensive integrity evaluation will be conducted for all local councils this year to focus efforts on improving entrenched corruption-prone areas in local settings. The final plan for the comprehensive integrity assessment will be confirmed after gathering opinions from various institutions with the results to be announced in December 2025.

NIPSO launches complaint handling guidance for staff in public bodies
On 8 April 2025, the Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman launched a set of videos to help staff in public bodies deal with complaints from members of the public. The videos explain why complaints should be taken seriously and give step-by-step guidance to staff on how to investigate complaints well.

New Secretary General Bernhard Achitz takes office
On 10 March 2025, Mr. Bernhard Achitz took office as the new Secretary General of the International Ombudsman Institute. He succeeds Gaby Schwarz in this important role and is looking forward to continuing the important work and services, which the IOI provides to its members around the world. He thanks Ms. Schwarz for her strong commitment and service to the IOI.
