The Yukon Ombudsman’s office has completed a formal investigation regarding the practice of site saving at Yukon Parks campgrounds. The investigative report concluded that the Department of Environment’s lack of enforcement due to insufficient tracking of site saving is unfair and made six recommendations.

AOB welcomes Uzbek Ombudsman Institution to study visit in Vienna
From 18 to 20 November 2024, the Austrian Ombudsman Board (AOB) received a delegation from the Uzbek Ombudsman Institution (Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights) for a study visit in Vienna. Ombudsperson and IOI Secretary General, Ms Gaby Schwarz, and Uzbek Ombudsperson, Ms Feruza Eshmatova, also discussed ways to deepen cooperation within the International Ombudsman Institute.

University of Malta Survey on Ombudsman Institutions
The Dean, Faculty of Laws, University of Malta, a former Senior Investigating Officer with the Office of the Ombudsman in Malta and author of “The Ombudsman: too soft a take on the public administration?” (BDL 2020) is currently working on another, somewhat more ambitious work, this time considering the ombudsman institution from a global perspective. Ombudsman recommends solutions to Office of Children’s Services
Alaska State Ombudsman Kate Burkhart made seven recommendations to the Alaska Department of Family and Community Services, Office of Children’s Services (OCS), after an ombudsman investigation. The investigation was prompted by a complaint from a foster parent, who alleged OCS conducted an unfair investigation into a Protective Services Report, failed to seek timely mental health services or placement for a child, and made an inappropriate placement decision. The investigation revealed that OCS struggled to find effective solutions for a youth with complex needs and challenging behaviors.

Ombudsman reaches seven ADCs with Mobile Accountability Clinics
The Office of the Ombudsman has in the past week been to eight Area Development Committees (ADCs) in Nkhata Bay district with Mobile Accountability Clinics. The Office has been conducting meetings with about 40 members of each ADC and later held public rallies, raising awareness about the functions of the office and how local communities can utilize its services.

Ombudsman announces investigation results on enforcement against unauthorised land developments
The Ombudsman, Mr Jack Chan, on 24 October announced the completion of a direct investigation operation regarding the enforcement by the Planning Department (“PlanD”) and the Lands Department (“LandsD”) against unauthorised land developments, and made 16 major recommendations for improvement to the two departments.

Ombudsperson Punjab Ms. Nabila Hakim Ali Khan Advocates for Women’s Rights at Women University Multan
In a meaningful outreach initiative, the Ombudsperson Punjab, Ms. Nabila Hakim Ali Khan, visited the Women University of Multan to promote awareness about critical legal protections for women. During a seminar held on campus, Ms. Khan discussed two essential legal frameworks designed to protect women's rights: the Protection Against Harassment of Women at Workplace Act 2010 and the Punjab Enforcement of Women Property Rights Act 2021. Her aim was to emphasise the importance of understanding and utilizing these laws to safeguard women’s rights.
