2024-09-06Toronto Ombudsman finds major gaps with police’s registry for vulnerable persons
On 5 September 2024, Toronto's Ombudsman released his report, An Investigation into the Toronto Police Service’s Communications About its Vulnerable Persons Registry. The TPS launched the registry in December of 2019 to allow the public to file personalized de-escalation strategies to help police officers support individuals with emotional, psychological, medical, or other physical conditions. Four years later, the Ombudsman’s investigation found that only 305 people currently have their information entered into the registry.

On 5 September 2024, the Ombudsman, Mr Jack Chan, announced the completion of a direct investigation operation into the arrangements for driving tests by the Transport Department (TD), and made 12 major recommendations to the Department.

OCO report highlights scramble to find school places for children with Special Educational Needs
There is still a scramble every September to find appropriate school places for children with Special Educational Needs, despite progress made by Government in recent years to prioritise the issue. That’s according to Plan for Places, Two Years On from the Ombudsman for Children’s Office, which examines whether progress has been made on recommendations made in the institution's previous Plan for Places report in 2022.

Western Australia Ombudsman appointed for a further five-year-term
Chris Field, Western Australian Ombudsman and President of the International Ombudsman Institute has been appointed for a further five-year term. It is absolutely vital that an Ombudsman is utterly apolitical and impartial. It is therefore particularly pleasing that Mr Field was first appointed for a five-year term in 2007 under the Carpenter Labor Government, twice reappointed under the Barnett Liberal Government and now reappointed under the McGowan Labor Government.

Ombudsman Hong Kong investigates Government regulation of boarding facilities for foreign domestic helpers
The Ombudsman, Ms Winnie Chiu, today (17 February) announced the completion of a direct investigation into the Government's regulation of boarding facilities for foreign domestic helpers (FDHs) and made altogether 10 recommendations for improvement to the Labour Department (LD), the Home Affairs Department (HAD) and the Immigration Department (ImmD).

Le nouveau Médiateur du Faso prend langue avec ses prédécesseurs
Le Médiateur du Faso, madame Fatimata SANOU/TOURE accompagnée de ses plus proches collaborateurs a entamé ce vendredi 04 février 2022 une série de visite de courtoisie aux anciens Médiateurs du Faso. Cette sortie l’a conduite respectivement chez madame Amina Moussou OUEDRAOGO qui a dirigé l’institution de 2005 à 2011 et chez madame Alima Déborah TRAORE qui a été aux commandes de 2011 à 2017.

El Defensor del Pueblo, Eduardo Leblanc González, realizó una visita a las islas Casaya, Casayeta y Bolaños, en respuesta a una reunión previa con el comité de las islas, en donde los moradores habían expresado su preocupación por una serie de problemas, incluyendo la falta de agua y electricidad, escuelas en ruinas, y la apropiación ilegal de sus territorios.

El Defensor del Pueblo de Navarra-Nafarroako Arartekoa, Patxi Vera, se trasladó el 27 de agosto 2024 a la sede de Fundación Elkarte, en Pamplona, donde mantuvo un encuentro con sus responsables. Fundación Elkarte tiene como principal propósito la promoción social de personas vulnerables, en línea con los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS) relacionados con la pobreza, la educación y el trabajo inclusivo.

CDHCM participa en Seminario Web “Garantizar la equidad de género: El papel del Ombudsman"
La labor de los Organismos Públicos de Derechos Humanos a nivel global, regional y local es fundamental para entender y analizar los prejuicios de género, con el propósito de incidir y erradicar las desigualdades que enfrentan las mujeres en el ejercicio de sus derechos. Así lo destacó la Presidenta de la Comisión de Derechos Humanos de la Ciudad de México, Nashieli Ramírez Hernández, al participar en el Seminario Web “Garantizar la equidad de género: El papel del Ombudsman”, organizado por la Asociación Africana de Defensores del Pueblo y Mediadores, en colaboración con el IIO.
