Ms. Samadia Lightbourne, Senior Investigative Officer for the Office of the Complaints Commission in the Turks and Caicos Islands, participated in the annual Assembly and Seminar of the Institutie of the Latin-American Ombudsman (ILO), held from December 4-6, 2024 in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil. The event, located at the confluence of Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay, was graciously supported by Itaipú Binacional.

On 18 December 2024, The Ombudsman, Mr Jack Chan, announced the completion of a direct investigation operation into the public services relating to after-death arrangements, and made a total of 10 major recommendations to the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, the Department of Health, the Hospital Authority and the Immigration Department.

2024-12-19Workshop held at Salim Habib University to select 10 students as ambassadors to Ombudsman Sindh
The 3rd round of the Workshop on the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh’s Ambassador Programme was held at Salim Habib University, Karachi, on 11 December 2024 to instill the concept of civic responsibilities and advocacy skills in the youth of Sindh by carrying out the community outreach of ombudsman mandate to student community and general public. The workshop, initiated through the Regional subsidy of the IOI, focused on the role of the Provincial Ombudsman Office in providing administrative justice to the public, and was chaired by the Honourable Ombudsman of Sindh, Mr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput.

2024-12-13Ombudsperson investigating province’s distribution of assistance cheques to most vulnerable British Columbians during Canada Post strike
The BC Ombudsperson is investigating the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction’s distribution of cheques intended for income and disability assistance clients during the current Canada Post strike. The Ombudsperson’s investigation was commenced after being advised by the ministry that as of the beginning of December 2024, thousands of November social assistance cheques were not yet delivered.

La síndica de Greuges de Cataluña, preocupada por las afectaciones que puede tener el cambio climático en Cataluña, especialmente en las zonas inundables, en 2023 abrió una actuación de oficio. Se hizo un seguimiento del grado de cumplimiento de la obligación y recomendación de tener estos planes de emergencia municipales y, finalmente, se emitió una resolución para difundir sus resultados. De los 521 municipios que deberían tener obligatoriamente plan de emergencias por inundación, solo lo tienen 206 (el 39 %).

The report provides a snapshot of voluntary public interest disclosures made between 1 October 2023, when the Public Interest Disclosures Act 2022 (PID Act) commenced, and 30 June 2024.

El 4 de marzo de 2026, el Defensor del Pueblo, Ángel Gabilondo, ha instado en un acto organizado con motivo del Día Internacional de la Mujer, “a no claudicar ante las trabas a la igualdad entre hombres y mujeres”. La institución ha conmemorado el Día de la Mujer que se celebra el próximo 8 de marzo con un `Un diálogo entre generaciones´ en el que tres mujeres, de tres generaciones diferentes, han debatido sobre los retos y dificultades a los que se han enfrentado a lo largo de su vida por el hecho de ser mujeres, y los obstáculos que, a su juicio, siguen existiendo a día de hoy.

In the run-up to International Women's Day, the Austrian Ombudsman Board and the Stiftung Forum Verfassung launched a follow-up format to the lecture series "One in Five", which was organised by MedUni Vienna in previous years. Students of social work and people in training for other social professions as well as representatives of civil society organisations came to the event centre of the Constitutional Court for an expert event on preventing violence against women.

The Parliamentary Ombudsman, Judge Joseph Zammit McKeon, presented the first Parliamentary Ombudsman Prize in Law to Ms Jodie Mary Farrugia in recognition of her dissertation titled ‘Guardian of Good Governance: Expanding the Jurisdiction of the Parliamentary Ombudsman in Malta’, submitted in April 2025.
