2023-05-26Provincial Ombudsman Sindh publishes latest newsletter
The Provincial Ombudsman Sindh recently published its latest quarterly newsletter covering the period from January to March 2023. The newsletter features the visit of the IOI President, Mr Chris Field, who was invited to Karachi by the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh, Honourable Ajaz Ali Khan. Among others, they gave speeches at the launching ceremony of the research study on “Assessment on Malnutrition (Stunting) in District Tharparkar”, which was undertaken in collaboration with the IOI under its Regional Subsidy Program.

L’Ombudsman de l’Ontario, Paul Dubé, a fait savoir le 10 août 2022 que les préoccupations et les plaintes du public adressées à son bureau de « chien de garde provincial » sont presque revenues à leurs niveaux prépandémiques. Son bureau a traité 25 161 plaintes et demandes de renseignements durant l’année financière 2021-2022, soit une hausse de 25 % par rapport à l’année précédente. La plupart (52 %) ont été résolues en deux semaines ou moins.

2023-05-25Ombudsman probes Transport Department’s arrangements for driving tests
On 18 May 2023, the Ombudsman, Ms Winnie Chiu, announced the launch of a direct investigation to examine the driving test arrangements of the Transport Department (“TD”). The Office has received 40 complaints related to driving tests, involving such issues as candidates’ discontent about the waiting time for driving tests, TD’s early test appointment booking system, the scheduling of driving tests, as well as appeals and arrangements for video recording of driving tests.

The Parliamentary Ombudsman, Judge Emeritus Joseph Zammit McKeon, the Maltese Ombudsman, attended the Executive and Governing Board meeting of the Association of Mediterranean Ombudsman (AOM) in Kosovo. This meeting was part of a three-day conference organised by the Ombudsman Institution of Kosovo in partnership with the AOM discussing ‘Integrity and Independence of Ombudsman Institutions: resilience amidst Challenges.’
