In 2021, a record volume of 12,219 new cases were processed, as a result of a 6% annual increase in the number of complaints admitted. Based on 2017, the beginning of the first mandate of the current Ombudsman, Maria Lúcia Amaral, the accumulated growth in the number of new complaints processed is 57%.

2016-08-22Ombudsman urges education providers to learn from complaints
Following an invitation from Ireland’s Institutes of Technology Ombudsman Peter Tyndall met with them in Galway on Thursday 18 August to highlight his role in examining complaints from the public about the third-level education sector. At the meeting the Ombudsman urged all providers of public services to use complaints as a source of learning. He also encouraged students who are unable to resolve complaints locally to bring their complaint to his Office.

At the beginning of June, the Office of the Parliamentary Ombudsmen – JO, was hosting the Nordic Ombudsmen Meeting in the town Ystad in the southern part of Sweden. The Nordic Ombudsmen comprises of Ombudsmen from Denmark, Finland, Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.

The IOI’s Australasian & Pacific Region (APOR) held a conference on 13 October 2022 and its 34th annual members’ meeting on 14 October 2022 in Wellington, New Zealand. The conference, on remaining relevant and getting government to listen, was co-hosted by Victorian Ombudsman Deborah Glass OBE as Regional President and New Zealand Chief Ombudsman and IOI 2nd Vice President Peter Boshier.

Pursuant to section 17 of the Organic Act of Ombudsmen B.E. 2560 (2017), Mr Viddhavat Rajatanun has completed his term as Chief Ombudsman of Thailand. Following the Royal Proclamation Appointment granted by His Majesty the King Mahavajiralongkorn, Mr. Somsak Suwansujarit was appointed Chief Ombudsman of Thailand and Assoc.Prof. Issaree Hunsacharoonroj as Ombudsman of Thailand.
