The Office of the Turkish Ombudsman will hold the 4th International Symposium on Ombudsman Institutions in Ankara from 2 – 3 March 2017. Under the motto “Migration and Refugees” this year’s symposium will tackle issues such as countries’ policies on refugees, vulnerable groups, xenophobia, racism and islamophobia.

Gender equality is one of the fundamental principles of the European Union. However, despite the great progress that has been made in recent decades, gender gaps still exist today. In the labour market, women still remain predominant in lower-paid sectors, are under-represented in leading positions, and are also subjected to violence and harassment. "We need to eradicate the idea that it is permissible to encroach on women's rights," said Human Rights Ombudsman Peter Svetina on the occasion of International Women's Day, which is celebrated on 8 March.

À l’aube de la Journée internationale de la tolérance zéro à l'égard des mutilations génitales féminines ce 6 février, le Médiateur fédéral a adressé une recommandation à la Chambre des représentants. Chaque enfant a droit à une vie de famille.
