2022-05-31Hong Kong Ombudsman announces results of investigation into effectiveness of rodent prevention by Food and Environmental Hygiene Department
The Ombudsman, Ms Winnie Chiu, today (26 May) announced the completion of a direct investigation into the effectiveness of rodent prevention and control by the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department ("FEHD"), identifying three areas for improvement in the FEHD’s work on rodent surveillance, rodent prevention and disinfestation, and application of rodent-related complaint data.

Ombuds institutes have a special role in the social justice landscape of their countries that enables them to make significant contributions to the achievement of the SDGs and help close the global justice gap. A recent workshop allowed participating ombuds institutes to share their efforts to improve security sector governance as a core element of realizing SDG 16 on peaceful, just, and inclusive societies. 2017-09-21National Ombudsmans visits colleague in Poland
“Independent, impartial and outreaching”; with these three terms Reinier van Zutphen, National Ombudsman of the Netherlands defined the central task of an ombudsman institute. He did so during a press conference at the office of the Polish ombudsman Mr Adam Bodnar. Mr Van Zutphen is also board member of the European Chapter of the de International Ombudsman Institute (IOI). The Dutch National Ombudsman visited his colleague for a two day meeting sharing best practices and experiences.

The citizen in San Pa Tong Subdistrict Municipality, Chiangmai, had filed a complaint and requested the ombudsman to look into the performance of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC), in regards to allowing a private company to install a cellular tower in a community area.

On 13 July 2022, the European Commission published its third annual Rule of Law Report, providing an overview of the trends in this area in the European Union. For the first time, the Report contains specific recommendations to member states, including Croatia. One of them calls for Croatia to ensure a more systematic follow-up to recommendations and information requests of the Ombudsperson.
