El Defensor del Pueblo, Ángel Gabilondo, ha iniciado actuaciones de oficio con los departamentos competentes de las comunidades autónomas y las ciudades autónomas de Ceuta y Melilla para recabar información sobre las demoras que se están produciendo en la valoración de personas con discapacidad. El número de quejas de los ciudadanos por esta causa se ha triplicado en los últimos cinco años y, según ha podido constatar la institución, los retrasos llegan a ser de hasta tres años en algunas regiones.
