2018-01-30New Commissioner of Official Languages takes office
Raymond Théberge took office as Commissioner of Official Languages on January 29, 2018. He has a PhD in linguistics from McGill University, a master’s degree in applied linguistics from the University of Ottawa and a bachelor’s degree in history from the Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface. He held a number of leadership positions before coming to the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages, and he has significant experience with official language minority communities. He also has extensive experience in academia and has worked across Canada.

Suite aux débats parlementaires qui ont suivi la parution d’un article dans un quotidien intitulé « 3 000 malades mentaux parqués dans des maisons pirates », l’absence de cadre juridique concernant l’existence et le fonctionnement des SHNA a été constatée. Plusieurs députés wallons ont introduit une proposition de décret relative à l’hébergement et à l’encadrement à durée indéterminée pour personnes en difficultés sociales.

2018-01-03European Region elects new Director
The term of Ms Lucia Franchini as Ombudsman of Tuscany (Italy) ended and as a result, the position of one European Director on the IOI Board of Directors became vacant. According to the European regional by-laws one of the Directors at the European regional Board, Ms Ülle Madise, Chancellor of Justice of Estonia, took over the vacant seat at the IOI Board and elections were held to fill the vacant position on the European regional Board.

2022-08-11Ontario Ombudsman publishes Annual Report 2021-2022
Ontario Ombudsman Paul Dubé on August 10, 2022 reported that public concerns and complaints to the provincial watchdog have returned almost to pre-pandemic levels. His office fielded 25,161 complaints and inquiries in fiscal 2021-2022, an increase of 25% over the previous year. Most (52%) were resolved in two weeks or less.

L’Ombudsman de l’Ontario, Paul Dubé, a fait savoir le 10 août 2022 que les préoccupations et les plaintes du public adressées à son bureau de « chien de garde provincial » sont presque revenues à leurs niveaux prépandémiques. Son bureau a traité 25 161 plaintes et demandes de renseignements durant l’année financière 2021-2022, soit une hausse de 25 % par rapport à l’année précédente. La plupart (52 %) ont été résolues en deux semaines ou moins.
