The CCAC suggests the relevant departments pay more attention to the work of disseminating preliminary information and broadening the general public's knowledge in order to allow them to better understand and gain knowledge of the relevant legal regime about economic housing.

Veterans Ombud Letter To Minister On Fairness Gap Affecting Veterans’ Families
On 7 May 2024, Colonel (Ret’d) Nishika Jardine, Veterans Ombud, released her letter to the Minister of Veterans Affairs on the fairness gap currently affecting some Veterans and their relatives. According to the Ombud, Veterans Affairs Canada’s (VAC) Veterans Independence Program policy may exclude access to care-at-home supports when Veterans’ family members live with them.

BC Ombudsperson sees youth in custody at risk due to ministry inaction
The BC Ombudsperson has identified a serious lack of progress by the Ministry of Children and Family Development on a 2021 Ombudsperson report with troubling findings about separate confinement of youth in custody centres. “The ministry’s inaction continues to expose vulnerable youth in its care to the risk of significant harm from separate confinement, especially Indigenous youth,” said Ombudsperson Jay Chalke.

Public Defender calls on a public school to avoid gender-based discrimination
On 28 February 2024, the Public Defender addressed the director of one of the public schools of the Khelvachauri municipality with a general proposal relating to the case of incitement to discrimination on the basis of sex/gender and called on him to not allow discriminatory treatment on the basis of sex or other grounds at school and to implement a policy of equality, and in relation to the school uniform, to ensure students' freedom of choice.

On 23 April 2024, the Federal Capital Territory’s Commissioner of the Public Complaints Commission, Comrade Dalhatu Ezekiel Musa, met with the Managing Director of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, Mrs. Maureen Allagoa, in her office in Abuja. They both agreed on the importance of a joint public awareness campaign to ensure that employees and employers alike are informed about the protections and obligations defined under current social insurance laws. They also discussed implementing joint initiatives to enhance accessibility of their services to the public.

There have been complaints filed with the Ombudsman concerning the need for pregnant women to take folic acid (vitamin B9) supplements to prevent birth defects in newborns in a daily dose of 0.4 milligrams before pregnancy, especially during the three months before getting pregnant and the first three months of pregnancy.

Yukon Ombudsman calls to modernize Act
Yukon Ombudsman Jason Pedlar has requested amendments to the Ombudsman Act that give him the same authority found in the majority of Canadian jurisdictions and align it with international best practices. Pedlar has submitted a report to the Yukon Legislative Assembly with proposed changes to the Ombudsman Act, to better protect Yukoners.
