The Pensions Ombudsmen regularly received complaints from retired civil servants living abroad who receive their pension on a foreign account. In order to obtain their pension, they had to submit a certificate of life each month.

Discrimination against women candidates based on the minimum height requirement for admission to Police Academy
The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) in case C-409/16, which was recently published, was asked to reply to a request for a preliminary ruling addressed to it by the Greek Council of the State, regarding compliance of the minimum height requirement for admission to Police Academy of at least 1.70m, common for both sexes.

Vigorous activities by the Seimas Ombudsmen raise public awareness about the Seimas Ombudsmen`s Office
More than a half (54%) of Lithuanian residents would know where to find protection against human rights violations, as many as 42% would seek help from the Seimas Ombudsmen. Those are the findings of a representative survey of the population commissioned by the Seimas Ombudsmen’s Office, carried out at the end of last year.

By default, Magyar Posta [the Hungarian postal service] allows the delivery of registered mail to blind and partially-sighted persons only in the presence of a witness of full age. According to the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights, this practice is in violation of the right to equal dignity and the country’s international human rights commitments.

Trans persons, or those whose gender identity and/or gender expression differs from the sex assigned them at birth, face frequent discrimination, harassment and violence across the European Union (EU) today. A report published by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) examines issues of equal treatment and discrimination and analyses data on the experiences of trans respondents from the EU LGBT survey.

Monitoring of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
One of the priorities of the Human Rights Defender is to monitor the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. As a consequence, the ombudsman’s office has asked every county and district in Poland to fill out a survey, which aims at collecting respective data on how local government implements the adherence to the convention.

Ombudsman and Medical Council agreement will benefit the public and health services
On 23 March 2017, the Medical Council and the Office of the Ombudsman signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will allow for the exchange of information and complaints between both offices. The MoU will benefit both the public and health services. The agreement will also establish procedures to assist members of the public in accessing the services of both organisations.
