This focus area was chosen because children and young people with a psychiatric diagnosis can be in a particularly vulnerable situation. This is especially true for children and young people who need to be hospitalised in the psychiatric sector.

On Wednesday, 13 November, at the National Congress, the Federal Public Defenders’ Office (DPU) called for greater recognition of the plight of women who, as victims of domestic violence, are accused of international child abduction. Federal Public Defender Daniela Brauner participated in two public hearings held at the Federal Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, addressing the application of the Hague Convention in cases where Brazilian mothers return to Brazil with their children after fleeing domestic violence.

In October 2024, the Ararteko-Ombudsman of the Basque Country presented a research “Study on Sexist Attitudes among the Youth and Adolescent Population of the Basque Country”. The research is intended to allow a better understanding of the phenomenon of sexist attitudes among the youth and adolescence and extract a series of conclusions, to use them as a basis for recommendations to support decision-makers and improve public policies on gender equality.

The Seimas Ombudsman Augustinas Normantas has begun the monitoring of social care homes through social media. Having launched a private Facebook group named "A Quarantine in social care institutions," the Human Rights Division of the Seimas Ombudsmen's Office started monitoring of social care institutions by providing the assistance to caregivers and collecting information on challenges with which the institutions face.
